More Rumors About a New PSP

Online PSP communities have been abuzz today following a report from Kotaku detailing a redesigned PSP.

The article says that this is not a PSP2, merely a completely revamped PSP, meaning it will still play the same games as before and be compatible with the original PSP. Other interesting features include 8 GB of flash memory and an LED screen whose lighter power usage will quadruple the battery life of the PSP.

Also, the buttons supposedly will be improved, and are even compared to the d-pad on the PS3. The new system, dubbed “PSP Slim” by Kotaku, may also include a built in camera.

In March, 1UP reported that stores were telling Sony to drop the price on the PSP, or they weren’t going to sell it anymore. Apparently Sony quieted the retailers rather quickly with a top secret announcement.

Could this be what Sony told the retailers? I think so.

Sony hopes to sell the unit for under $170, which would make it a compelling purchase even for current PSP owners.

    I can’t wait!

I wouldn’t want the camera built in however…

It’s a gaming machine, not a camera. The 8 GB flash drive is too much, 2 GB would be enough…

I would pay $250 again if it was packaged with a camera…

I hope it’s scratch and finger print resistant…

I hope they move the analog nub for more comfort…

    Brighter screen?! Ya!!!!

best part to me is that it will only be $170.

=) Wow, this is excellent news. xD Surprising, but very nice. If SONY does the 8GB flash thingy paired with the Station Launcher, this could all turn into great news for SONY.

It’s not surprising that retailers were wary about the price of the PSP. I think it started around the time that the Wii was launched ($250, same price as PSP back then, if you may)…

It would be a very good idea if SONY makes a new look to the PSP. And with new special features it would feel like a new handheld. Also what I hope SONY does, is so the new PSP alows us to watch videos on the internet of the PSP. And I apoligize if I have mispelled any words in this message, because I am typing pretty fast on my PSP.

Hi, its me again. I just want to say that if SONY does include the camera with the new PSP, the handheld will become more popular. Espiecially if it only costs $170.

There’s already a new PSP coming. It looks the same. It will still cost $170, but it won’t allow you to watch videos on the PSP’s internet like you wished. Instead, it’ll have video-out (the ability to connect your PSP to the television and watch videos and listen to podcasts), revised features, better battery life, and USB-charging ability.

It’s not so much a redesign as it is an improvement. I still think a redesign is way off.
