We finally have a newsletter release date: August 20th, 2006. We are looking to publish our first newsletter then. It will have many different features & exclusives, details that we will release at a later date.

Back to the PSP-is-dead claims, SCEA responded by sending Peter Dille to answer a few questions from United Press International’s Tech File weekly column. Dille claims:

SCEA has been providing the Hollywood studios with data on the PSP consumer, both from a demographic and psychographic point of view, in an effort for them to better tailor their product offering to this new and emerging market,” he said. “As such, we have seen studios cutting back on releasing their full content on UMD, as unlike the DVD market, the PSP consumer is targeted. We are committed to helping the studios better understand our product and our consumer and will continue to educate them as we evolve and enhance the functionality of the PSP.

Hmm…not much. Basically, they’re trying to cover their butts from the real truth–which hurts. Target has dropped the UMD movie format from their shelves and sales have also been dropping. Furthermore, Dille responds to those who think that the PSP doesn’t have unique games and he mentions LocoRoco:

[…]if you look at the excitement around the titles we showed at E3 in May, like LocoRoco and its creative use of the PSP controls, it’s a great time to be a PSP owner. Smart third parties also recognize the great success achieved with games tailored from the ground up for the PSP. For example, this fall EA is publishing PSP-specific versions of its popular Def Jam, Medal of Honor and Godfather franchises. Publishers and developers alike see the value of the system and its installed base, and they’re meeting user demand with several titles on the horizon that gamers can’t wait to get their hands on and play.

chubigans, a 1Up blogger, is helping to possibly turn around all of the negative buzz that has struck the PSP recently–the dropping of UMD movie formats, Gameworld declaring the PSP dead, etc. He compares the PSP to the XBOX360, showing that the PSP has many of the same features of the $400 home gaming console. He has some nice words about LocoRoco:

Could Loco Roco be the killer app? It all depends on Sony. When you see a DS, Mario is not far from it. Sony needs to get as many Rocos around the PSP as possible, and MAKE the game the killer app. It has potential. It will sell well. It will be awesome.

To LocoRoco news, PSP Fanboy helped us spot out a YouTube vid showcasing the Japanese subway ads. Really nice vid (even though it’s pretty much like the pics we showed in previous posts…). We were able to find a karaoke version of the opening song in the demo/trailer song also on YouTube. Really nice :-d.

Later, alligator.
