ATC: SONY’s Fighting the Fight (At Least)

All Things Considered is a weekly series, providing the ranting and raving podium for the eager founder and blogger of Get Loco, locoroco. It will cover topics ranging from the gaming industry as a whole to its players.
Here at Beyond Get Loco, we were pretty sure this is the Year of the PSP. 2007’s gotta be. God of War: Chains of Olympus, WipEout Pulse, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, and a couple of other exclusives are coming in addition to a new PSP, and at least for our friends in Europe, a video download service. With everything–including sales–looking up, it’s easy to say that we were right. We’ve had our doubts in between, but critics have nothing on those who truly say that this year will show immense success for SONY’s little machine that can: SONY’s fighting the fight, and doing it extraordinarily. ATC: The State of Gaming

All Things Considered is a weekly series, providing the ranting and raving podium for the eager founder and blogger of Get Loco, locoroco. It will cover topics ranging from the gaming industry as a whole to its players.
When game developers, company executives, and videogame bloggers are asked a question, it typically comes down to the state of gaming. When I asked myself this question a few weeks ago, I received a spine chilling notion that gaming would become the next television: over-censored, over-monitored, and controlled by the government. Seeing the Manhunt 2 incident happen right in front of our eyes and the infamous Hot Coffee scandal, it’s easy to see why in the future, conglomerates will look as gaming as a way to cash in on a booming market and the government will try to censor everything that they can take a stab at. Good thing? Hardly. (more…)

ATC: E3 will Never Be the Same…

All Things Considered is a weekly series, providing the ranting and raving podium for the eager founder and blogger of Get Loco, locoroco. It will cover topics ranging from the gaming industry as a whole to its players.
Thoughtful, yes, but a whole in your pocket. A deep one. A nice silver necklace sits on your girlfriend’s chest, she screaming with excitement. And then she’s pissed a few months later when the lovely silver necklace gets lost. Another few months passes and she finds the necklace in the back of her closet. Even so, the necklace will never be the same to her because you spent another paycheck to replace it with a more expensive gold necklace that she cherishes and adores more. That near-pointless metaphor explains my feeling after this year’s E3. (more…)

ATC: Why the iPhone is So Important to the Market…

All Things Considered is a weekly series, providing the ranting and raving podium for the eager founder and blogger of Get Loco, locoroco. It will cover topics ranging from the gaming industry as a whole to its players.
Whichever way you look at it, Apple’s new gizmo: the iPhone is a considerable threat to everything we’ve known so far. But, it’s potentially the most important launch since that of the iPod. Why? Because it shows that Apple is open to trying new things and dominating them. Already, the world knows of this portable call making-portable media playing-web surfing-smartphone and half of them are willing to dish out the $500 and even $600 it takes to get your hands on one of these babies. The truth of the matter is this: if Apple is willing to try the phone market, what other markets would you imagine them branching into? If your guess was gaming, you’re right on the target. (more…)

ATC: EA Attempts to Monopolize Gaming Industry

All Things Considered is a weekly series, providing the ranting and raving podium for the eager founder and blogger of Get Loco, locoroco. It will cover topics ranging from the gaming industry as a whole to its players.
Here’s the disclaimer before people misunderstand what I’m trying to say: I don’t work for Activision or Ubisoft, and I do actually enjoy a decent EA-game once in a while. What I am saying is at EA, known as Electronic Arts, once was the third-party company that could, has changed a lot. It has gone from the friendly and understanding small business that was creating new projects and great software easily and quickly to the egotistical giant monster that is waiting to attack our industry. Coming Soon: All Things Considered

So I’m no Dan Brown and I’m most definitely not Shakespeare (or from that age), but I do like to write. I’ve used my personal blog, blogging loco, as a vent for all the problems that people have in society today, but I will use All Things Considered, a weekly column, as my way of speaking about the gaming industry as a whole. I will talk about a range of subjects–SONY’s recent troubles, the copycats of the gaming industry, casual gaming, and everything in between. Think of this as a breath of fresh air in venting my anger and praising my favorites. I want this to be a conversation between you and me, though, so I’d appreciate any possible comments as I continue to do this weekly column. See you then.
